Frostburn Stuff from Jason "Zhust" Olshefsky
As you may have known, I'm working on the map for Frostburn. Here's some documents (reverse-chronological):
2011
- 2011211 Frostburn 2011 Map 11x17_PDFA.pdf (7.4MB) is the 11x17 size that has been "flattened" (fonts and strokes rendered as vectors) for printing. Note that it is in PDF archive (PDF/A) format which is compatible with PDF but stricter in formatting.
- 2011211 Frostburn 2011 Map Letter.pdf (631KB) is the current letter-sized (8.5"x11") version and 2011211 Frostburn 2011 Map 11x17.pdf (632KB) is the 11x17 size for larger laminated copies. The OpenOffice Draw document is 2011211 Frostburn 2011 Map.odg (2MB). The following changes were made:
- Shawn Ferry corrected the camping regions per e-mail discussion.
- Shawn added a "un-campable" overlay that I tweaked to be less obtrusive.
- Shawn added a reference layer of Pennsic War map.
- Shawn added a reference for the regions-to-campsite mapping that doesn't print. I modified it to be a general non-printing reference layer and added instructions for printing and scaling.
- Shawn changed the name of the Office to Bathrooms/First Aid and added a medical cross.
- I cleaned up and rearranged the layers. (It turns out you can't change the layer order in OpenOffice so it's a matter of add, move, delete, rename.)
- I also noted an issue with the hatching patterns not being stored in the files by name. For future use, select a hatched area, go to "Format:Area...", select the Hatching tab and, if there is no named hatching that exactly matches the existing pattern, click "Add..." to create a named hatching. I used "Trees" for the forest and "Un-campable" for the non-camping areas.
- I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what I believe is a bug. Something went wrong with layer printing visibility (the trees would never print). I had been saving the file, and closing OpenOffice and reopening the saved document revealed the errors and allowed me to fix them. I think you can just close the file and reopen it.
- 2011203 Frostburn 2011 Map.pdf (252KB) is the current letter-sized (8.5"x11") version for the 2011 Frostburn map as a PDF. Updated to condense the area shown, improve visibility of region names in forest areas, remove most Pennsic terms for regions, and add regions from ticketing page. The OpenOffice Draw document is 2011203 Frostburn 2011 Map.odg (1.6MB).
- 2011202 Frostburn 2011 Map.pdf (210KB) is the current letter-sized (8.5"x11") version for the 2011 Frostburn map as a PDF.
- 2011202 Frostburn 2011 Map.odg (1.5MB) is the current OpenOffice "Draw" document format of the 2011 Frostburn map as a PDF. All layers are locked and this version includes hidden reference layers (maps, sattelite views, etc.)
2010
- 2010129 Frostburn Map.pdf (295KB) is the January 29, 2010 version of the map. The electric hookups are now integrated into the key and will likely remain on the map. I also scaled the PDF into three other sizes for printing as a poster, assuming the ability to scale the print is not available (i.e. some online services; note that this rasterizes the image so it won't scale as well from these files):
- 2010128 Frostburn Map.pdf (295KB) is the January 28, 2010 version of the map. It now includes the FrostBurn text and no longer includes the First Aid icons.
- 2010124 Frostburn Map.pdf (282KB) is the January 24, 2010 version of the map. It now includes campsite numbers, (temporary) arrows for power, wooded regions, center camp, the effigy location, contour line numbers, and a key.
- 2010118 Frostburn Map.pdf (102KB) is the January 18, 2010 version of the map. It now includes campsite numbers and other text.
- 2009B23 Frostburn Map.pdf (75KB) is the first version of the map from November 23, 2009. It includes the Cooper's Lake roads, landmarks, and topographic contour lines.
